Alanna Miller is pleased to announce Hold On, an exhibition of collaborative work by Christopher Maschinot and Anna Oliver, opening October 27, 2022 from 6-8pm at Alanna Miller.

This new body of work focuses on emotive expressions of intimacy through dynamic uses of shape, color, and form. Maschinot’s sculpture and Oliver’s painting employ palpable tension, evocative color, and the sensibility of force with which hand, or brush, manipulates the medium.

Maschinot and Oliver create sensory and amorphous embracing forms; smooth, rounded, and electric. Material and color meet in a harmonious parallel to the duo’s respective practices. Clay and color expand, growing and pushing the other further in an exploration of how collaboration has allowed their work to evolve.

The duo’s sculptures, as well as Oliver’s abstract paintings, explore what it means to “hold on” both physically and metaphorically, through longing and lust, expectation and embrace.

About the Artists

MASCHINOT/OLIVER consists of New York based ceramic artist Christopher Maschinot and painter Anna Oliver. They began working together on a collection of ceramics in the spring of 2021. Collaborating has allowed them to work more freely and expand on their individual practices, encouraging each other to take risks and experiment. Maschinot sculpts each piece and treats the surface, playing with form and texture in new ways. Oliver adds color, translating her sensibilities to a new medium. Together, they juxtapose form and finish to create unique pieces alive with color and movement.

Christopher Maschinot is a New York-based ceramic artist. He received his BFA in Ceramics from the University of Georgia in 2008. He moved to New York City in 2010 and established his own studio practice shortly thereafter.

Anna Oliver is a New York-based artist. She studied graphic design and painting at Boston University before moving to New York City in 2011. After working in the fashion industry, she pivoted to pursue painting.
